Plein Air - Boats in Port Orange

Hello and Happy Friday!
Hallo and Happy Friday!

The cool weather is right around the corner, and I took the opportunity yesterday morning to paint under the Dunlawton Bridge in Port Orange. I have painted there a lot in recent years, and the boats anchored there seem to change a lot. The shrimp boat on the left seems to look different each time, probably because of the rigging being tackled in various ways. The small boat on the very right was one of my very first Plein Air subjects years ago.

There were several fishermen there, and I watched one of them while I was painting. All five fish he caught were too small and had to be tossed back. They were all different and beautiful!

Above is the animation of my process, but in case it doesn't work for you, here is the collage.

This time I started with positioning the elements, as it was quite critical to get that correct. Then I washed over it in mostly purple and mauve acrylics, with some blue and yellow. That evoked the sunny feeling right away.

A family with little girls came by and chatted a bit, they were here for fall break from Georgia, and thankfully did not participate in Hurricane Irma 2 weeks ago.

I then started with oils and did the dark body of the black boat, turning it into a bit more cheery blues, and then it was just a matter of adding some details in oils.

Here is the final after about 1-1/2 hours.
Hier ist mein Gemaelde nach ca. 1.5 Stunden.
