Hallihallo, hier ist der 2. Teil unserer Reise.
We arrived in Dublin and walked the city for 2 days before venturing out on our own on the wrong - ahem, left side of the traffic in our rental car. Our apartment was right next to St.Patrick's Cathedral.
Wir kamen in Dublin an, und spazierten fuer 2 Tage in der Stadt herum, bevor wir unser Mietsauto abholten, und dann auf der falschen, aeh, linken Seite fahren mussten. Unsere Wohnung war gleich neben der St. Patrick's Cathedral.
1. St. Patrick's Cathedral. That drawing was a tour de force in perspective! But I prevailed and it came out really nice.

3. Jameson Irish Whiskey distillery. Outside courtyard, waiting for the tour. This is a magnificent copper kettle for distilling!

4. On our way down south to Cork we visited Cashel Castle. The cemetery had lots of the traditional Irish crosses, and the tour was really great.
Auf dem Weg in den Sueden nach Cork besuchten wir Cashel Schloss. Der Friedhof dort hatte die typischen Irischen Kreuze, und die Fuehrung war sehr interessant.

6. Downtown Kinsale, a very picturesque coastal town in the South. Earlier we drove the Ring of Kerry, but I had no time to sketch. Took too many photos there, what a spectacular landscape! It's different around every corner.
Innenstadt von Kinsale, eine huebsche Kuestenstadt im Sueden. Vorher am Tag fuhren wir den ganzen Ring of Kerry, aber ich konnte dort nicht malen, da um jede Ecke rum die Landschaft immer huebscher und toller wurde. Ich schoss viele Photos!
7. Downtown Galway, in the west of Ireland.

8. Some tidbits we learned or found funny about Ireland, plus street musician Paul and his awesome dog Miley we befriended at the pub in Galway. I showed Paul my sketchbook, and the rather graphic speech bubble on the right is his quote ;-)
Einige interessante Beispiele ueber Irland, die wir lernten oder lustig fanden, plus Strassenmusiker Paul und sein lieber Hund Miley, mit denen wir uns in einem Pub in Galway anfreundeten. Ich zeigte Paul mein Skizzenbuch, und das Zitat rechts ist seine Reaktion ("Mensch Frau, du bist verdammt talentiert!")
9. Finally some landscape sketches! This was our favorite day. While the sun was out, we walked the entire 11 miles of the Cliffs of Moher in 5 hours and picnicked on one of the 700' high cliffs. It was awesome, one of the most spectacular sights we have ever seen!
Endlich ein paar Landschaften! Diese war unser Lieblingstag. Als die Sonne rauskam, konnten wir die ganzen 18km der Cliffs of Moher in 5 Stunden wandern. Wir assen unser Piknick sogar auf einem der 200m hohen Cliffs. Dies ist die beste Sehenswuerdigkeit, die wir je im Leben gesehen haben!

Die Cliffs of Moher von der anderen Seite, als wir unsere Broetchen assen. Viele Leute dort, aber nur ein paar vereinzelte wanderten zu beiden Endpunkten wie wir.
11. Connemara Coast. This is the western part of Ireland where you can encounter sheep wandering the streets. I loved the landscape with its rather barren mountains, lakes and brown meadows. Very lonesome and wild. The quote is from Chris de Burgh (famous Irish soft pop singer from my childhood whose concert we caught while in Berlin just a week ago - what a treat!)
Die Connemara Kueste. Dies ist im westlichen Teil von Irland, wo man vereinzelte Schafe gemuetlich auf den Strassen wandern sieht. Die Landschaft war super, mit ziemlich kargen Bergen, vielen Seen und braunen Wiesen. Sehr einsam und wild. Das Zitat ist von Chris de Burgh, den wir im Konzert in Berlin im Friedrichstadtpalast die vorige Woche sahen, so toll!
12. In the western part we stayed in Galway, which is such a nice and friendly town. Here is the rather new, but beautiful cathedral which I painted while Austin took a 5mile run around town.
Im Westen wohnten wir in Galway, was eine sehr schoene und freundliche Stadt ist.
Hier ist die ziemlich neue, aber wunderschoene Kathedrale, die ich zeichnete, waehrend Austin 8km durch die Stadt joggte.
13. From Galway we drove up to Northern Ireland where we stayed in the coastal town of Bangor, right next to Belfast. In Belfast we took a very interesting walking tour. This is the view from our apartment, with the ocean to the left.
Von Galway aus fuhren wir dann nach Northern Ireland, wo wir in der huebschen Seestadt Bangor wohnten, neben Belfast. In Belfast nahmen wir an einer sehr interessanten privaten Fuehrung teil. Die Zeichnung ist unser Blick von der Wohnung mit dem Meer links.
14. From Belfast we had easy access to the Giant's Causeway. I sketched the first (less interesting) inlet while waiting for our tour guide. The interlocking stones were awesome to walk on and take great pictures.
Von Belfast konnten wir leicht in den Norden fahren, wo wir unter anderem den Giant's Causeway bewanderten. Ich malte die erste, weniger interessante Bucht, waehrend wir auf unsere Fuehrung warteten. Die Basalt Steine des Causeways waren echt interessant and toll zum Klettern.
15. Our very last sight to visit at Knowth/Newgrange, on our way back to Dublin to the airport. A large site of passage graves that were over 5000 years old. That was very cool to see, and we were blessed with another mostly sunny day with the usual sprinkle here and there.
Unsere allerletzte Sehenswuerdigkeit in Knowth/Newgrange, auf dem Heimweg nach Dublin/Airport. Sehr alte aufgebaute Huegel, die ein Passagengrab enthalten, ueber 5000 Jahre alt. Sehr interessant, und wie die ganze Woche, war es wieder ziemlich sonnig mit nur einigen kurzen Regenschauern hier und da.
16. Our last night in Ireland, we walked downtown Dublin in gorgeous warm sunshine, to have one last pint/one last sketch. We were driven home early by a sudden shower, and for the first time it actually poured instead of just sprinkles (all the way to the apartment, about 2 miles).
An unserem letzten Abend in Irland spazierten wir in vollem warmen Sonnenschein zu den Bars in Dublin, um eine letzte Pint zu haben und eine letzte Skizze zu malen. Leider fing es ploetzlich heftig an zu regnen, und wir wurden ziemlich nass auf dem 3km Heimweg, obwohl wir Schirme hatten. Dies war der erste und letzte heftige Regen, den wir in Irland erlebten, normalerweise regnete es ziemlich leicht, oder nieselte nur.
